Mark Kermode and Nigel Floyd nail the problem with modern horror
Thought I’d direct everybody to this Kermode Uncut blog post, in which Mark Kermode and Nigel Floyd discuss the new breed of ‘cattle prod cinema’; films which make loud noises and go boo every few minutes. It’s a fantastic phrase, and points out exactly why I’ve been constantly disappointed with mainstream horror films of recent years, which is simple: Just because you are being made to jump does not make a film scary! I advise you to watch the video, to see two of film criticism’s finest in action.
