Is The Lobster the strangest film of the year?
After a well received premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year, the first trailer for Dogtooth director Yorgos Lanthimos’ English language debut The Lobster has arrived. Starring Colin Farrell as a man living in a dystopian future in which single people have 45 days to find love before they are turned into an animal (told you it was strange), The Lobster looks to be just as excellent, downbeat, and utterly unique as Dogtooth. It has a phenomenal ensemble cast (Rachel Weisz, Olivia Colman, Ben Wishaw, John C. Reilly, Michael Smiley, Léa Seydoux) playing intriguingly named characters (Short Sighted Woman, Limping Man, Loner Leader), and if the trailer is any indication, the film will see Colin Farrell at his very best.
Will The Lobster prove to be the strangest film of the year? I certainly hope so.
